Review in one sentence: LUNCH SPECIALS FOR THE WIN!! Okay, first off, I have to confess that I am neither a huge fan of Thai food nor a connoisseur when it comes to Thai food. With that disclaimer, I'm not ever disappointed with the food here, and I seriously doubt you can get a better deal than their lunch specials (a itty bitty soup, a spring rolls, a lunch entree and a drink for $8-$9?!) It's a convenient location for anyone who's on the northeast corner of MSU campus, but otherwise you have to battle Grand River traffic and minimal back-lot parking. I usually get their L3 (PadPak) with chicken, but I've seen what their Pad Thai looks like, and no one I've ever gone with complains that it's not good food (a number of them being international students from the far east). You can also tell them how spicy you'd like your food to be, and there's some additional seasoning you can ask for (I don't think it costs extra). Seating is a bit minimal - our party of 7 was probably the biggest they could accommodate during a lunch-our rush, and that's because they had two smaller tables open. The waitresses are really nice, and though they don't know fluent English, they can communicate just fine. Lastly, if you do come here - bring cash. I was told there's a 10% off discount for paying in cash.

This place has pretty average Thai food, but I gotta give it to the Thai tea, it was dope!

This is a quiet place. And the don yum soup was delicious! After the first time I tried, I couldn't help go back the next day to get another dish. I forgot the name but it was rice and some stir fry with green curry, which was awesome.

Very fair prices and generous portions - but most importantly, the food is good!! I have eaten there several times and the quality has been very consistent. I'll be going back!!

Chicken spring rolls have replaced the pork spring rolls for the lunch special. Still worth stopping here every time I visit the greater Lansing area.

I still love this place. Every time I am back in East Lansing I make it a point to stop here, even if I can only grab take out. The #15 is still amazing as ever. It's been 6 years since I graduated from State and I only end up in EL once or twice a year at best, and the owners still remember me and still know what I like to eat. Yet another reason this place is so awesome.

Good service and fast. Very tasty. Really only one complaint they don't use jasmine rice which in my mind is one thing that sets apart Thai from other Asian style foods.

This place has GREAT Thai food. The atmosphere sucks but that's all part of the charm. The lady who owns it is almost always there taking orders and she is hilarious. Taste of Thai did a big lunch catering order for me a while back and even delivered all that food promptly to my location. It was all great and people raved about everything! I'm not a very adventurous Thai foodie, but the Pad Thai is always good and the rangoons are to die for.

I went up to EL for my cousin's birthday and after a day of hanging out, this is where she wanted to go for dinner. I had been here once before before seeing Conan live so I happily went along. This restaurant is not much to look at. They could do a bit better with the organization. There appeared to be a plastic bag stuck to the fan...so that should tell you this is a place that belongs on a college campus. We ordered spring rolls, coconut curry with vegetables, vegetable pad thai, and a few meat dishes. I wasn't feeling well but ate because my meal was delightful. The vegetables still had a great crunch, the color of the curry was inviting, and it was hot enough - I didn't have to ask for hot sauce or complain about the heat. It was just right. They ought to give people more rice, though. That's a complaint. Those small containers aren't doing anybody any favors. Don't skimp on giving your customers rice. The Pad Thai looked tasty, too. Everybody was pleased with the meal and very stuffed. We all made room to eat here even though we'd been indulging on birthday cake and treats we brought from home for the celebration. I'd go here again. There's nothing remarkable about Taste of Thai. It is like almost any Thai restaurant I have ever been to. The decor is lacking, the ambiance is non-existant, but the food is homey, the portions are big, and the curries are well-rounded. The servers are quiet but polite. I have no serious complaints about coming here but if I wasn't in the area and wasn't already going there, I'm not sure I'd decide to go. Nothing about it was out othis world. Great array of vegetarian food, though. If you prefer your food meat-free, visit Taste of Thai - you have appetizers, noodle dishes, and main courses to choose from that will make your tummy very happy.

We just got back from having dinner here. Delicious! After living in Hawaii for awhile, we have tried our fair share of Thai food. Taste of Thai definitely gets our seal of approval. We started with the Krab Ragoons, since it's a favorite of my husbands. Very tasty. Possibly even made with real crab too. I got the Drunken noodles with beef, medium in heat. Perfect amount of heat for me. Good flavor and quite satisfying. And of course I got a Thai iced tea. Love those things! Husband got the peanut curry with chicken. This was the best peanut curry I have ever had. It had a ton of different flavors. I am usually a noodle fan, but after having this I might have to order it for myself next time. After the one waitress wasn't so busy, she was quite friendly. She also knows frequent customers by name and what their usual is. It's always nice to see workers who pay attention to their customers.

With the exception of how they deliver the food, this place is terrific. Our waitress brought out a bowl of soup and my dining companion's meal at the same time.. mine a bit later. I always have the same thing here Mongolian beef. My companion had drunken noodles and LOVED them. My mongolian beef was terrific but a might shy on the beef part. Still.. this is a great cheap filling place for dinner. You can easily take home leftovers for lunch the next day! My fortune cookie lacked a fortune too. since it was sealed I can't blame Taste of Thai for that.

This is a great Thai place. I have been to a few different Thai places in the Lansing area and this one is my hands-down favorite. It's small and has the feel of a hole-in-the-wall diner. The prices are very reasonable, service is prompt and extremely friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious. I have never gotten something there that I didn't love, but if you're a first-time goer, I would recommend the "pad se eew" with chicken. I've been here on multiple dates, a few times with friends, and once when my dad and my brother came to East Lansing. It's always been fantastic. Five stars, highly recommend.

Since my post years ago, there is a new owner and I have not tried it so I cannot comment. But for rating sake, I will put 3 stars. Important update for those counting on my review.

This is the best Thai place I've been to, which is saying a lot, because I've been to MANY! In my opinion, it's easily the best in East Lansing. Their Pad Thai (not gooey like another reviewer said below), Drunken Noodle (with beef), Gai Yang (fried chicken, the breading on it is to die for...pardon me, but I'm practically salivating at the thought of it!) and Pad See Ew are absolutely delicious. I've had other dishes before here, but those are my favorites. The chicken satay is great as well; there's just the right amount of flavor and it's not dry at all. The only minor complaints I have is that sometimes they put too much cream into the Thai iced tea, and the chicken in their Mussuman chicken is entirely too dry, thus making it hard to chew. I've stopped ordering the Mussuman after three times, after realizing the chicken in it will always be dry... Other than those small things, I love this place! I go at least once a week. Great lunch specials, too, but too bad I never make it in time for them. :(

Word to the wise: When you get my order wrong, don't tell me that it is "not your problem." Wow. We already only order from here once in a blue moon when our favorite Thai place in the area is closed, never have been very impressed but tonight's experience prompted me to finally leave a review. The combination of sub-par food and rude service has sealed the deal - there will definitely not be a next time.

Great staff!! They had a wonderful tea selection at terrific prices, and the food was great. Pad thai was good, glad I stopped in during my visit to Michigan State.

How did I never go hear to eat during 4+ years of undergrad? Luckily a classmate in my graduate class today suggested Taste of Thai. I had the Pad Pak lunch special and have nothing to say about it. Some of the better Thai I've had. All Thai restaurants and take-outs are pretty similar in my opinion. I haven't found any stars or any duds really, but when you consider the literal "taste" or Taste of Thai and the price, I don't know how you could beat it. I think my lunch special was $6.75 and I got a soft drink, spring roll and chicken pad pak. I thought the pad pak was seasoned quite well and I really enjoyed it. The staff was very nice and accommodating. If you're in the area looking for Thai, I wouldn't look further.

Taste of Thai isn't much to look at, but the food was very good. They have a large selection of traditional Thai dishes. They prepared it a bit hotter at our request and managed to walk the line of pleasantly hot without scorching my gringo taste buds. We had the spring rolls to start (ordered with a side of peanut sauce which was much tastier than it looked). The Drunken Noodles were the best I've had. We also had the red curry which was sweet with a little kick to it. The only down side is that the decor and flow could use some work. The florescent overhead lights don't do any favors for the atmosphere and dual entrances at the rear and front make for an odd feel, however convenient. This is actually one of the best places we've been in Lansing. I would definitely recommend it and will go back.

  • Chuniq I.

I love this restaurant! It is comfortable and home-like and as a vegetarian, most dishes can be made meat-free! My favorite dish is the curry vegetables made extra spicy :)

    (4)
  • Aaron T.

Great food - big portions - more traditional and not fusion. Either is ok with me.

  • Rachel C.

I've been to my fair share of Thai restaurants, and this one was definitely at the bottom of that list. When we first walked in, there was no one else in the dining room - a little strange for a Friday around 5. Our waitress seemed very bored (I suppose because of the atmosphere) which was also very awkward and uncomfortable. Chairs and tables were cheap, old carpet, and no more than a few 80's Thailand posters on the very orange walls. When our food was brought, my dish, tofu pad thai, had a good spice to it (I asked for medium) but overall it was lacking in flavor. The tofu was not fried very well and the pieces themselves were much too big. However, my friend ordered Beef Curry, which was absolutely delicious! I am disappointed in my meal, but this restaurant does have a little potential, depending on what you order.

    (2)
  • Alexandra K.

Maybe I'm just a Thai food snob, but I Taste of Thai was subpar and a cheap imitation of a delicious cuisine. I ordered pad thai with steamed tofu and it was a greasy, gooey mess. Since when is pad thai red? Since when is steamed tofu cold? Just because its situated in a college town does mean students should have to deafen their palettes to fill the void of their hometown favorite.

  • Jason Z.

Delish! I dont know how "authentic" it is, I just know it's tasty. I love the panang curry and the pad thai. The lunch specials are great and reasonably priced

    (4)
  • Adam S.

Unless you're in Thailand, you can't get more authentic than this. The prices are low for the quality and taste you get. Being half Thai myself and having traveled to Thailand, I am sure when I say this it is as authentic as it gets in the Michigan area. The pad thai, chicken satay, spring rolls are among my favorites. The peanut sauce is available for purchase if you notify them ahead of time. It's paired well with the chicken satay and the pad thai.

    (5)
  • David M.

I don't remember having been to Thai Kitchen, which I would like to be able to compare this to, but in general this place has great Thai food for very low prices. I'm no Thai connoisseur (see my 5-star No Thai rating) but the dishes here are quite tasty, as is the tea. I'll have to try the 15 next time, Sara C.

    (4)
  • Matt R.

Have to compliment this place on the food. I ordered Pad Thai with Tofu, and although I had concerns about the tofu being fried, it was quite good! The sauce was excellent. I ordered take-out and the service was quick. The dining room was small and very quiet, so maybe not for a rowdy group, but good for an intimate meal out.

  • marisa s.

this lil thai joint in E.L. is the bing-bang-bong-dizzle! the lunch special is so cheap and you won't be full. $5.25 for pad thai, egg roll, soup and a drink. it's authentic too; they're got the whole fam from thailand cookin in the back - making your pad thai sooooo nice. the decor is pretty funny - 3-4 kinds of wallpaper and pics from the homeland (nice touch), and dingy lil tables, but who cares??! it's great thai food that's hard to find in this town.

    (5)
  • Bruce S.

Good Thai cuisine. Decent prices. Never been disappointed here. 4 stars.

    (4)
  • Alan S.

From the reviews, it would seem I went on an "off" day. Twice. Actually, I give the food two stars, and the service close to four (which was far better than what I've found in other local Thai places). Specifically, the server was exceptionally friendly and even circled the most popular items on the menu for me. Prices are pretty good and the location is super-close to campus. 2.5 stars for now, rounded down after second trip... On to the food, though: my pad thai was disappointing. It was a sloppy, greasy mess with a pool of orange colored oil left in the bottom of the takeout container. Speaking of which, I don't know if they always use styrofoam boxes, because mine had started to melt from the hot entree (likely due the hot orange-y oil burning a hole in the box). And the next day, the leftovers had that distinct foamy taste from the noodles left clumped up in the box corners overnight. Even before this issue, however, there was a very different flavor and texture - and ultra-tiny egg particulates too - than the other 2 dozen or so pad thais I've tried. Okay, but not my favorite. Spring rolls were decent and served with a nothing-special dip. Another perplexing finding was that my "chicken" dish was loaded with tofu. Sorry, but I'm not a fan. So why was there an avalanche of crumbled bean curd in my dish? The bits were too small to pick out, so I grudgingly made my way through... On my second trip, I again ordered a pad thai after inquiring about the tofu. Apparently, it is included in many of the dishes. Uh okay... Here's the menu: "Rice noodles sauteed with your choices of meat with egg, bean sprout, green onion, with peanut topping. With chicken, beef, or pork." Tofu is not listed and certainly not expected; a Thai friend told me it is more traditional this way, but I have NEVER experienced this before! They did make it without the tofu for me, but the odd, orange oily condition persists. It just kills the wonderful, fresh flavors I'm used to in Thai food. In short, okay food at more than fair prices, good service, and convenient location for students (with limited parking in back, too). Just not doing it for me.

The best Thai I've had in EL, hands down. My boyfriend has been a regular customer here for a couple years and it's easy to understand why. The food is always tasty, if a little inconsistent. We usually order a few dishes, rotating between green curry, drunken noodles, pad Thai, Mus-Sa-Mun-Gai (a red curry dish with chicken, potato, and pineapple), and pad Thai peanut. The green curry is the most hit or miss - sometimes too sweet, other times too spicy. The rest are more reliable and the pad Thai peanut is a MUST try. Their spring rolls are also yummy, if a little greasy. Pricing is reasonable. It may look a little steeper than other local Thai places, but it's mostly because the quality and quantity is so much greater. (The noodle dishes are easily three meals and I don't have a dainty appetite!) Thai it: you'll like it.

    (4)
  • Ashley N.

Great Pad Thai and Curry pad Thai! Fresh veggies and yummy dressing in the Thai salad. We got it to go and it was super yummy!

    (4)
  • Nicole W.

Best. Pad Thai. EVER. Though I am a little mad at you, Taste of Thai, because you have ruined all other pad thai's for me in the universe. I no longer eat it anywhere else unless I am visiting East Lansing (which is never frequent enough!) -- no one matches your style. The staff is also very friendly and hard working. Until we meet again...

    (5)
  • J C.

The food was good, service was speedy and it seemed like an above average clean. I got the pad see ewe and really liked it. The pad thai wasnt great but thats ok, bc thats how good the pad see ewe was. It seems like the reviews are mixed but at this point I would love to go back and try more stuff on their menu. Everything seems fresh and its got that authentic wok flavor. Go during lunch and they'll hook you up with a soup and a spring roll.

    (4)
  • James B.

Not recommended. Their price was way too high $11.00 for lunch Their peanut curry was weak and not even taste-able with white rice. Very disappointing. From the looks of the place on the edge of campus I'm assuming they pay crazy rent and aren't doing well. The decor is dingy and I would recommend exploring other options. At the end of the day their sauce is what let me down the most.

    (1)
  • Eva L.

Why is every single dish I ordered so damn sweet? Drunken man noodle is supposed to be savory and spicy. Nope only got the spicy part down. Got four other dishes and they're all one noted--SWEET. For that price, I expected better.

  • Joe H.

This place was surprisingly good. I ordered delivery (have to go through mrdelivery.com ) it got here fast. Ordered Crab Rangoon and beef Pad Thai. The Crab Rangoon was decent, they were very small and all I could taste was the cream cheese, but the sauce it came with was its saving grace. It wasn't that run of the mill red sweet and sour sauce. Instead, it was a sweet hot sauce we peanuts and it was great. The Pad Thai was the real winner. I ordered it hot, it was pretty decent heat level, but if you like heat like me go with the extra hot. The flavor was a bright heat with a flavorful Pad Thai sauce. There was plenty of of beef and it was very tender and delicious. I would definitely swing by this place and order this again.

    (4)
  • Pratik J.

I ordered take out one night when I was at a friend's place from here. Overall, the food was an average small thai place. I ordered the pad thai and my friend ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. There is definite flavor there that really packs a good punch but in my opinion this seems to be the equivalent to No Thai. The dishes are very similar in choice, look, and taste. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who is just in the East Lansing area for a night or two, but its definitely a viable option for a night where you want to be lazy and order some solid take out.

The food was very nice but the service wasn't as good as I was hoping. I absolutely love that food but this wasn't as good as I was hoping

Disappointing. I am new to Lansing and heard that this was the best Thai. Wanting to venture out, I drove 12 miles out of my way to get two of my favorite Thai dishes (red curry, and Pud Thai). I will admit that I came at a time when restaurants are slower (2pm). However, after reading about all of the fresh ingredients on Yelp, that is what I expected. The chicken was definitely not fresh. The Pud Thai was so sweet, that was the only flavor. It was not medium spiced as requested and the noodles were soggy and over-cooked. I'm pretty sure the white rice is instant. Then my favorite mouthwatering spicy red curry! Mmm... Nope...not this red curry. The broth was bland and spice-less. It had green peas and was overflowing with bamboo shoots. No Thai eggplant, no creamy coconutty goodness...my taste buds are sad:( Perhaps they were out of other vegetables and used what they had... Either way, NOT GOOD. Unfortunate. I might give them another try at a peak time and see if I just came in at a bad time, but I'm not going out of my way to do it. The spring roll was just ok. Mehhh.

  • Joe J.

I love it, when a place exceeds its yelp rating. Thai princess did just that, Great interior decorating and that style continued onto the food with excellent presentation. I ordered the mango thai curry for lunch. The curry had a good flavor, spicy yet full of flavor, the mango added a nice fresh sweetness. I guess the downside was the price, 11.99 for lunch is a bit much, especially when the serving size was kinda small. Still, I think it's a very nice Thai place that I would come back too.

  • Vikram V.

A small but quality Thai restaurant in East Lansing. I ordered the Curry Fried Rice with Chicken for 9.45. Price was worth the portion and the meal was really filling. They give a discount if you pay in cash at this establishment so use it to your convenience. Service was a little laid-back seeing as it's the end of the school year in a town populated with mostly college students. If I was still attending school here, I'd definitely spend some time trying other dishes on the menu.

  • Solomon S.

This is one of my favorite spots whenever I visit Michigan. Excellent dishes and great service. You must give it a try.

    (4)

A relaxed, boardering on a little run-down, Thai restaurant. Nothing exceptional, but very solid range of Thai dishes. I've gotten takeout from them a half dozen times and will continue to do so.

    (3)
  • Paula J.

The food seemed very fresh with fancy cut carrot slices. I had a vegan modified pineapple fried rice which was a little greasy for me. The Pad Prew Wahn (sweet and sour) made with tofu was a bit too sweet. The portions were large for lunch and priced around $10 on the weekend with about a $2 savings M-F. Easy access with ample parking and close to the university.

    (3)
  • Kellie G.

I ordered the Pad Thai and it was fair. I ordered my lunch special for pick up, and I didn't check the bag until I got back to my office. i didn't get the soup or the salad, and the spring roll was about the size of my thumb. Tasty, but two bites. I won't be back.

    (1)
  • Judy F.

We ordered curry puffs, spring roll and yellow curry. It was all really good for the 3 of us. We didn't want to order a lot as we didn't want to take anything back to the hotel. The puffs reminded us of indian food. The crust was light and tasty and the filling was wonderful. The spring roll were hot and fresh - sometimes they seem like they've been fried and sat for awhile. These had a great crunch to them. The main dish was full of coconut flavor and the chicken was tender. Even the thai fortune cookies were a treat. It's really small (about 10 tables) and very plain, but the food was so good. They also gave a 5% discount for cash.

    (4)
  • Eric H.

Fresh veggies and high quality chicken. Very good tasting. My favorite Thai around greater Lansing.

    (5)
  • Casey B.

First time here. I love thai food. I've heard so much about it. We had to try it. First we started with rice soup, um kinda weird. It's basically rice in some broth. Next spring rolls, very bland no flavor. Pad Thai it can't be wrong, right? Well here it taste like sweet and sour noddles. Yuck!! I asked the waitress if I could get something else. I ordered drunken noddles with chicken. There was about 5-6 pieces of chicken and lots of Thai basil. Not impressed. Won't be coming back here again.

    (1)
  • Karen B.

It's a hole in the wall with really goodfood. Their crab Rangoon is the best in the area. Food is fast. Dining room is small so I usually do take out.

    (4)

Excellent service! The drunken noodles are excellent I only wish one thing.... the portion size larger because it is sooooooooooooo good.

Great food, well spiced with fresh ingredients. The wait staff was fantastic and they really helped us make the best choices. Glad we stopped here when visiting East Lansing

  • Amber X.

Love their dessert! I forgot the name, but it is made of sticky rice topped with coconut milk and fresh mango. It's just sooo good! I also like the red curry. The taste is a little bit strong(spicy) but smooth. Also, it is close to business school. So very time I'm off class and feel tired of cooking, I'd go to Taste of Thai.

    (4)
  • My H.

This place is a hidden gem compared to no thai and thai 102, the food is more authentic. The food is a little pricey, but the lunch deals are not too bad!

  • Steven I.

Peanut curry chicken was great. Get it spicy. So was house specialty soup. Nice broth.

    (4)
  • Brandon B.

Food is great. However the place itself is in bad shape. Feels very rundown. There isn't much seating so many times you have to wait. Servers are very slow and have a habit of vanishing.

    (4)
  • Rory J.

I have been coming here for years! Excellent food, if you pay cash it's a 5 percent discount. I recommend the pad see eww. In comparison to the multiple other Thai restaurants in EL this is the best for the price. Food 4/5 Atmosphere 3/5 Price 5/5

    (4)
  • Laura W.

The flavor was lovely. However, for the price, there should have been than 5 tiny bits of shrimp. It even cost extra for shrimp. Seriously? Other dishes were good but again... A bit pricey for what we ended up with. Possibly dining in instead of take out is a better experience?

    (3)

Place is great. Cheap authentic food. Great spring rolls. Readable menus even if u don't know Thai cuisine. Friendly service. Clean place. I would recommend u give it a try.

Small quiet place. Good was delicious. House specials are especially good. Will be back next time I'm in the area!

Best Thai place in East Lansing. Make sure to get the drunken noodle. You won't find better one any where else in Michigan.

    (5)
  • Betsy A.

I've explored Thai options a bit more in Lansing and Naing Myanmar Family Restaurant surpasses this place by a long shot... but it's a bit of a drive.

    (3)
  • Nathaniel B.

Pretty ok for standard Thai grub. I've enjoyed the soups and appetizers much more than the entrees. The red curry had five tons of bamboo shoots in it, and was a bit sugary. The noodles I've had are overly sugary too. This is an occasional takeout option for us, but it's nothing to get too excited about.

    (2)
  • Haley H.

After reading the reviews, I was expecting to taste the best Pad Thai i've ever had. Safe to say that definitely was not the case. Although the flavor was pretty good, it was overall pretty greasy and was lacking fresh veggies. After finishing there was a puddle of bright orange grease left over which was pretty gross. I had take out for lunch, 7.55 for Pad Thai, an egg roll and drink. I ate half and will have the rest later so it can easily make 2 meals, not a bad deal. Overall pretty mediocre.

    (3)
  • R. L.

Disgusting and flavorless pad thai that made me feel queasy. I ordered take-out and should have checked the boxes before driving all the way home because they were not what I ordered.

    (1)

They DO IT MADE TO ORDER. Excellent staff, accommodate my dietary restrictions. Best thai food in the area.. Customized preparation, decent prices.

    (5)
  • Amanda D.

This place is the place by which I judge all other Thai places. Seriously. Everything I've ordered here has been great, but the Pad Se Ew is my absolute favorite. I crave it regularly. It's no joke. (I should note based on the very few negative reviews that I am not a fan of Pad Thai anywhere, so I don't get it here either.) I also enjoy that the staff remembers the regulars. They ask about my family, about people I've brought with me before, about music (since they know I'm a musician)...it's pretty awesome. They once sent the wrong dish home with my brother and I and called when they realized their mistake (before we'd gotten home)...and gave him free food the next time he was in. They also once brought out my noodles but took them back immediately because they were too oily - AND I HADN'T SAID A WORD. They're ON POINT. It's 10am and just writing this review is making me want to eat here. Hurry up, lunchtime!
